Gabrielino High School earns the "California Distinguished School" award once again.
California Distinguished School Logo
The annual award that recognizes some of the state's most exemplary public schools.  The Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jack O'Connell added these extraordinary high schools have shown they are able to increase the achievement of all their students and have provided evidence that they are closing the achievement gap.

"The Distinguished Schools program always identified schools that are leaders in academic achievement.  It now also recognizes schools that are leaders in helping all students succeed, and highlights the best practices that are effective in closing the gap," he said.  The program honors elementary and middle/high schools in alternating years.

"All our Distinguished Schools awardees are incredible schools with dedicated teachers, hard-working principals, and successful students."

This year, the selection process required schools to provide an in depth description of two "signature" practices implemented at the schools that are replicable, and directly related to the success of their students.  During an intensive site visitation by a trained team of external educators, additional evidence about the effectiveness of the practices was gathered and analyzed.  Information about these  successful signature practices will be shared through the CDE Web site and other venues, including an upcoming Web tool for educators called the Brokers of Expertise to become operational later this year.  The selected schools represent about 10.9 percent of California's nearly 2.400 middle and high schools.  Article from the EdCal Publication, April 13, 2009

Welcome to the 2009-2010 Gabrielino High School Website.

Great job students of Gabrielino, according to our calculations we scored very well on our API scores.  As soon as we get an official score, it will be posted here.

Congratulations are once again in order to the students and staff of Gabrielino High School for being named by US News and World Report as one of "America's Best Public High Schools". This puts us in the top 2.8% of the schools in the nation. Great Work Eagles!

Analysis was based on:
Standardized test performance of all students in Math and English. Proficiency rates of all students including the least advantaged in comparison with similar students in the state. Challenging college-ready curriculum as defined by the number of students taking rigorous college readiness courses and the number of 12th grade students who took and passed an AP test with a "3" or better before or during their senior year.
